Important information

Gradual ascent

Anyone who has held a class A2 driving license (medium-weight motorcycles) for two years can upgrade directly to class A with a practical exam, without having to take another theory exam.

Vehicle restrictions

Class A entitles you to drive all motorcycles, regardless of engine capacity or power.

Practical exam

The practical exam lasts at least 60 minutes and includes both driving in traffic and the demonstration of basic driving tasks (e.g. slalom, braking, evasive maneuvers).

AM and mopeds

The additional materials for class AM are limited to 2 double lessons. No practical exam is required for mopeds.

Rewrite

Anyone holding an old Class 3 driving license (pre-1999) automatically has the restricted Class AM and A1 (valid only in Germany). For the unrestricted Class A, a conversion and, if necessary, an exam is required. The old Class 3 driving license must be exchanged for a new EU driving license by 2033 at the latest.
